Stinkin’ Thinkin’

Trying to explain why I don’t want to do something can be frustrating. When everything aches. Bending to empty the dishwasher makes you lose your breath.

Ever been there? Your thoughts can get pretty stinky on those days.

“I wish I could do x, y or z but my body has failed me again.

So you beg off an outing (or go and resent being there). Lay down. Maybe cry. Eat junk food. Feel like giving up.

At the end of a self induced pity party you end up proving your body has failed you.

Whoa hold up!

Your body didn’t prove anything!

It was the thought your body has failed you.

What?!?

That stinkin’ thinkin’ led to doing and not doing things may have not been so loving for your body.

Our brains can be jerks at times.  And we believe ALL our thoughts are true. And guess what? They just aren’t. They are just sentences often running amok in our brains.

When stinkin’ thinki’g shows up ask yourself - is it true?  Is it helpful? If it isn’t either CHANGE IT UP to a thought that is more loving, more helpful, more empowering.

My favorite is what can I do in my body right now? That thought was a complete game changer for me. I went from a walker to running a half marathon the summer before I turned 60.
